That’s a good selling point right there. This hotel also offers free breakfast every morning, cookies and lemonade in the evening, a private pool for hotel guests, complementary gym passes to the local YMCA, on-site volleyball, and grills/BBQ free for guest use. Also, they had a really nice front porch with rocking chairs… As a girl from Kentucky, it was nice to sip some lemonade and rock in the shade on a hot summer day.
Rates: Like all other hotels, rates are season dependent. Typical rates for this hotel range from $140-$160 per night. Sometimes, they have special offers running or you can get special coupons (via MyCokeRewards) to get a better deal. Also, since it is a Days Inn… it is a Wyndham Resorts and Hotels entity and you can either redeem or rack up points with Wyndham’s free rewards program. Who doesn’t like free?
Charge Cards Accepted: All major credit cards are accepted here. We had reserved our room and paid in full online – thus, I’m not sure if they require a deposit upon reservation.
The Review: Driving along Virginia Dare Trail is already a relaxing experience. Ocean, seaside homes, and lazy residents greet you as you make your way on your journey. This Days Inn sits nice and cozy right on the beach in the heart of Kill Devil Hills, NC. Its architecture is reflective of a relaxing summer cottage that is easily a breath of fresh air. In addition to its relaxing nature, this hotel provides the typical comforts one would expect from a Days Inn and more! When you walk in, the lobby is very woodsy and classy with leather chairs and an elegant fireplace that just eases your troubles. This specific hotel employs a team of magnificent people geared towards wanting to make your stay perfect. From the second we walked in the door, my fiance and I were greeted, helped with our luggage, and offered lemonade in the dining area. The staff even put up with our numerous questions about the area and suggested some fantastic adventures and dining/bar options.
This was a great hotel to stay at for business, families, and couples alike and offered just the right amount of stuff to keep the sunny, relaxed feeling encompassed by the town. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere in the review, this Days Inn provides a delicious, hot breakfast every morning and lemonade and cookies every afternoon at no extra cost to their guests. Cookies and Lemonade may not seem like much, but when you come in to break from the suns hot rays, it’s nice to grab some cool lemonade and munch on a little something before heading back out to the waves! This Days Inn also keeps entertainment options at the front desk – for example, they had options for tours for various attractions in the area that you could sign up for at the desk. Making sure everything runs smoothly for the guest is their number one priority, and for us, nothing was too much of a hassle to ask them.
Days Inn offers a few different types of rooms to accommodate whatever you may need! The rooms, themselves, were typical hotel rooms. Ours was a standard double room (two beds) with a kitchenette (mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker), and a bathroom (of which seemed newly renovated). The tightness and the uncool vintage vibes of the room are my only complaint. Though our room had a decent view of the town and dunes, it was very small and appeared to not have been updated in some time. Since it was just the two of us, we didn’t pay too much attention to the specifics of the design. We weren’t in the room much anyway! Another good thing to note about the rooms is that they were clean when we arrived, cleaned daily (though the housekeeping was sometimes a wee bit lazy with it), and was FREE of BEDBUGS! THANK GOODNESS. It’s good to know you have a safe, bug free place to rest your head.
I will note that there are A LOT of flies in the hotel. It was a little unnerving at first, but they eventually went away. Just make sure to shut doors behind you and to not linger between outside and in. “In or out! You don’t live in a barn!”, my dad always said!
Dining and Entertainment: The only downside to this hotel was that it wasn’t within walking distance from food or a majority of the entertainment. It is within walking distance from the Wright Brothers Memorial (which is nice, considering it is one of the major attractions in the town). Other than that, we were driving most everywhere. Things are pretty near by, though and could easily be walked to.
I will warn you that if you do choose to opt out of driving, there aren’t really any sidewalks…anywhere where you would need them to travel by foot. For us walkers, we just get a grassy shoulder to walk on. So, please be careful if you choose to walk around the island.
Services: This has probably been my favorite Days Inn experience. The management team here has been absolutely astounding from the very second I booked our room. They are very tech savvy and were tweeting me well-wishes before our vacation even began and were warm and hospitable when we arrived. It was definitely a much different experience that what I’ve had at Days Inn’s elsewhere. Some of their services include: front desk guest services, housekeeping (limited service), wake-up calls, vending machines (including ice machine), access to special tourism programs such as guided tours and shopping excursions.
Facilities: One outdoor pool (which was open during certain hours…but during our stay was closed the whole week due to maintenance), beach access, outdoor grills, dining room (of which breakfast and afternoon snacks were served everyday FREE of charge).
